Martyn’s Law

The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025

What is Martyn's Law?

Martyn's Law, also known as the Protect Duty, is proposed UK legislation that will require publicly accessible locations to have plans and training in place to respond to terrorist attacks and other hostile incidents. Named after Martyn Hett, one of the 22 people killed in the Manchester Arena attack in May 2017, the law aims to improve protective security and organizational preparedness across the UK. The legislation was proposed following the Manchester Arena Inquiry, which highlighted gaps in security procedures and emergency preparedness at publicly accessible venues.
